Well, tomorrow I leave for Vermont to start my first residency at the Vermont College of Fine Arts. I still can’t believe how quickly time has passed. I first started thinking seriously about applying last August or September, and until now it’s seemed like such a far-off, unreal event. I admit that I am terrified to the point of not sleeping well, but I’m going to try my best to relax and go with the flow. The schedule is going to be crazy intense, so I’m hoping I will survive and I would love to post news about the program, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to squeeze in any extra internet time, alas.
One thing that has me grinning is that apparently our library orientation is going to be pirate themed with sea shanties and chocolate treasure!!!! Why couldn’t Smith’s library orientation have been that awesome. Surely I am in good piratical company.
And, on a completely different note, I just read Alexandra Bracken’s debut novel Brightly Woven. I loved it!! So much so that I thought I would post about it here. I haven’t gotten sucked into a book like that in a long time to the point where I didn’t want to do anything else but find out what happened next. It had everything I would have wanted in a book: a strong, feisty heroine, an angsty, mysterious wizard, humor, intrigue, romance… Shall I go on?
Ok, guys. Wish me luck!
